The Avishai Fund was established in 2003 in memory of Avishai Schindler, a beloved graduate of the Kiryat Shemona Hesder Yeshiva who was murdered by terrorists. The Avishai Fund was created to alleviate the economic struggles of so many residents of Kiryat Shemona. In the early years of the Fund, we distributed packaged food products, fruit and vegetables to approximately 30 families. Since the Second Lebanon War, which further stressed an already economically weak city, we have taken many more families under our support and have expanded our services to about 200 families that now receive regular, monthly food packages. On Rosh Hashanah, Purim and Pesach we distribute food packages to over 250 families.
Students in the Hesder Yeshiva, as well as members of the “Young Community,” take part in packaging and distributing the food boxes.
